Palazzo Castellesi Giraud Torlonia

Palazzo Castellesi Giraud Torlonia

Description

The palace, located in the Via della della Conciliazione 30, was built at the beginning of the 16th century for cardinal Adriano Castellesi. The architect, perhaps Andrea di Bregno, adopted the composition and details - like flat bossage, a mezzanine in the second floor and the outlining of the piano nobile with double pilasters - that were introduced with Palazzo della Cancelleria, erected few years earlier, but the quality of the facade falls short of the Cancelleria.
After several changes of ownership, the palace passed to the Borghese in the 17th century, then to the frech banker Giraud and finally to the Torlonia, whose crest can still be found above the portal.
